
The College of Medicine Organizes a Training Course to Develop Teaching Staff Skills in Clinical Examinations
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Walid Nassar Jaffal, the college organized a specialized training course titled "OSCE Exam Training: Practical Application and General Guidelines." The course aimed to enhance the teaching staff's skills in designing and implementing clinical OSCE examinations.
The course was delivered by:
- Associate Professor Dr. Saad Fawaz Makhlouf / Pediatrics Department
- Associate Professor Dr. Omar Abdul Qader / Surgery Department
The training targeted the academic staff of the College of Medicine to empower them with tools to improve student evaluation methods in accordance with global OSCE standards.
Course Objectives:
- Introduce participants to the structure of clinical OSCE exams and the approved evaluation tools.
- Develop skills for designing practical exam stations based on principles of quality and fairness.
- Train staff to apply the general rules of the exam, including time management and precise assessment of clinical skills.
- Simulate real-life OSCE scenarios to enhance practical experience.
"We aim through such programs to enhance the competency of our teaching staff, which will positively reflect on the quality of student training and prepare them for their professional careers with high-level skills," said the Dean.
Associate Professor Dr. Saad Fawaz Makhlouf emphasized the importance of the course, stating,
"The focus was on the practical aspect, such as designing exam stations and avoiding common evaluation errors, to ensure impartial and effective results."
The course included the following activities:
- Workshops for designing OSCE exam stations and defining success criteria.
- Comprehensive review of international regulations for clinical examinations.
- Analysis of common errors in student evaluation and strategies for addressing them.
- Interactive sessions simulating the roles of examiner and examinee in the exam.
